May Baby Beats The Boys In Tioga Open Trot

May Baby winning at Tioga Downs

The only mare in the field of seven, May Baby won the $20,548 Open Handicap Trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Leaving from the inside post, May Baby and driver Braxten Boyd went straight to the front in a :27.1 quarter and set evenly rated middle splits of :56 and 1:24.4. Makadushin N Cheez (Ridge Warren) went first-up going down the backstretch and challenged for the lead, but May Baby cruised home a one-length winner in 1:54.1. Makadushin N Cheez settled for second while favourite Kinnder Thinktwice (Jim Taggert Jr.) rallied off his cover to show.

Following up back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Open to Makedusin N Cheez and then Kinnder Thinktwice last week, May Baby was sent off as the 2-1 second choice and paid $6.10 to win.

May Baby is a seven-year-old mare by Guccio. She is owned by Cheyenne Yoder and trained by Brandy Wine. The win was her eighth of the season from 20 starts and she now has 32 career victories.

Live harness racing returns to Tioga Downs on Sunday, Aug. 18, with a 14-race card starting at 1 p.m.
