Silver Label Shines In Preferred Pace
Back on Canadian soil after her runner-up finish in the Lady Liberty on Hambletonian Day, pacing powerhouse Silver Label added another Preferred win to her resume on Friday, Aug. 16 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Driver Doug McNair landed the favourite into third as Style For A Mile (Jody Jamieson) carved out a :26.4 first fraction. The lead for that 56-1 shot was short-lived as McNair launched Silver Label from third and his mare cleared to the top through a :55.3 half. Prohibition Legal (James MacDonald) started a bid from fourth, but was stalled behind the cover she flushed and couldn't advance.
Silver Label hit the third station in 1:23.2 and cruised home effortlessly in :27 for the 1:50.2 tally. Prohibition Legal rallied for second, 3-1/2 lengths back of the leader, with Tells On A Roll (Travis Cullen) in the show spot.
Five-year-old Silver Label (Bettors Delight - Hidden Gem) is a homebred of Millar Farms, trained by Nick Gallucci. The mare picked up her 24th win for a 24-13-4 summary from 51 starts and more than $1.56 million in earnings. She paid $2.70 to win.
Friday's card also featured the second leg of a Pop-Up Series with three $12,000 divisions for non-winners of $18,000 in 2024. Thrilling Times (1:51.2; $3.30) and Tyga Hanover (1:51.3; $2.20) repeated first leg success in the second leg, with newcomer Bettorbeflyin (1:52.4; $14.90) prevailing in the other split.
