Five-Bagger For Sorrie At Georgian
Despite only one of his winning mounts being the favourite in their class, Austin Sorrie drove five winners on the Tuesday evening, Aug. 13 card at Georgian Downs, including Winchester Phoenix in an $8,000 division of the Prospect Series for freshman pacing colts.
Sorrie and the Dominic Gladu student took the quickest way around the oval with taking the early lead in the field of nine, setting the quarter in :30.4 and half in 1:00.2. A break by the first over horse shuffled the field at the three-quarters, but Winchester Phoenix regained his momentum and spread his wings, soaring to a 1-1/2 length score in 1:58.4. Babbling Billy (Samuel Fillion) finished second while Wicked Move (Paul Davies) was fourth placed third.
Winchester Phoenix is owned by Francois Dupuis, Les Ecuries Phoenix, Ronald Kelly, and Serge Leonard. In four starts for his young career, the two-year-old Bettors Delight-Giggle Hanover colt won his second race. He paid $28.90 off of 14-1 odds.
Sorrie also piloted Crazy World ($17.00, 1:52.3), Harborlite Ambrose ($11.70, 1:55.3), Sea Laird ($21.50, 1:54.1), and Why Wouldnt Ya ($5.20, 1:54.2) to victories in their respective classes to combine for the five wins on the card.
Jason Ryan piloted Officersoliderboy ($24.70) to victory in the second $8,000 Prospect Series pace with a 1:58.2 win by a head for trainer Paul Reid and owner Brenda Derible.
