McGuigan, Whalen Dominate In Atlantic Sires Stakes

The Mike McGuigan stable was unstoppable in partnership with owner Jamie Whalen in Atlantic Sires Stakes trotting action on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park during Old Home Week racing.

The Tuesday card featured the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two and three-year-old trotters with Gettin Lit providing the upset of the evening winning his $12,580 sophomore trot split in 2:00.1 for trainer/driver McGuigan and owner Jamie Whalen of Avondale, P.E.I. Post time favourite Rocket Blast (Corey MacPherson) was second ahead of Dusty Lane Wee (Marc Campbell). Gettin Lit went off at 16-1 odds and was on top of a $784.60 triactor ticket.

Stablemate Gettin Tipsy (pictured above) prevailed as the favourite in the other $12,560 three-year-old trot division in 1:59.3 for trainer/driver McGuigan over Dusty Lane Darby (Adam Merner) and Dusty Lane Mable (MacPherson). Whalen holds the ownership papers of the daughter of EL Rocket.

In two-year-old trot action, Supreme Rockette went to front and never looked back in her $12,720 Atlantic Sires Stakes division, stopping the clock in 2:02.2 over Fire The Rocket (Jason Hughes) and Dusty Lane Kahlua (Campbell). McGuigan trains and drives the E L Rocket filly for owner Whalen.

Dusty Lane Gus won his $12,720 Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old trot split in 2:00.3 for driver Campbell, trainer Lenny Myers and owner Alexis Gass of Cornwall, P.E.I. Race favourite Oceanview Nikki (McGuigan) suffered the first loss of her career finishing second ahead of West River Jet (Clare MacDonald), who recovered from an early break in stride.

Campbell had four driving wins on the card while trainer Ron Matheson made a pair of trips to the winner’s circle.
