Toscano Girl Stuns In Clinton Series Final

Harness racing at Clinton Raceway

Toscano Girl drew post seven going into the $7,500 Pop Up Series Trot Final at Clinton Raceway on Sunday (Aug. 11), but the Katelyn Graham student found it no challenge, stepping away to a 9-1/2 length triumph over her foes.

The Pop Up Series at Clinton was open to non-winners of $400 (fillies and mares $500) per start in 2024, minimum six starts with a purse over $7,500 last start not eligible. Also eligible are $9,500 claimers and first leg starters.

J Harris sent the Graham student to the top in the Final and never looked back. Toscano Girl was steady through the quarter in :28.4 and half in :59.3 before she really opened up. She was up by three lengths at the three-quarters in 1:30 and kept on going to win by a whopping 9-1/2 lengths in 2:01.1. Gloire Dream (Todd Ratchford) finished second and favoured Steel Reserve (Travis Henry) took the show spot.

Graham co-owns the Southwind Toscano - I Like Jesse five-year-old mare with Cheryl Cherry. Toscano Girl returned a winner in her fifth race this year from 20 trips to the track. The win was her 15th career triumph in 99 starts, producing $119,701 in lifetime earnings. With success in her previous Pop Up Series appearances, she went to the gate as the 3-1 second choice and returned $8.50 to win.

Chasenjaedyn (Wheeling N Dealin - Massivepajamaparty) won the $4,000 Pop Up Series Trot Consolation by 1-1/4 lengths in 2:04.2. Shawn O'Brien was in the bike for Jeffrey O'Brien, who bred and co-owns the six-year-old mare with breeders Eldon Wettlaufer, Carol Wettlaufer, and Pamela Baum. He paid $9.20 from 4-1 odds.
