Scioto Opens To Strong Poison, Flemsteen
Strong Poison strongly won the $34,722 Fillies & Mares Open Pace by two lengths in 1:49.4 on Friday, Aug. 9 at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
Dan Noble floated Strong Poison off the gate from their assigned post six and leisurely made the front mid-way through the first turn, tripping the beam in :26 for the opening quarter. Heading into the second turn, High Flyin Filly (Trevor Smith) pulled first-up, towing Tarapasta
(Austin Hanners) from last. The field hit the half in :54.1 and three-quarters in 1:21.4. My Red Sea (Tyler Smith) got the pocket trip to finish second with Tarapasta getting up for third.
Strong Poison is by Always B Miki out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Fiyonce. Trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. and owned by Let It Ride Stables and Odds On Racing, the four-year-old millionaire mare now has six wins in 11 starts with $290,426 in earnings this season.
Tyler Smith got another pocket trip in the $36,111 Open Trot, but this time made it to the winner’s circle with Flemsteen.
Forceful Power (Sandy Beatty) made her way to the top from post four by the :26.3 opening quarter. Dayson (Noble) was flushed out first-over by Prince Of Honor (Hanners) and was sitting second by the :56 half. Forceful Power looked comfortable on the lead at the 1:24.4
third quarter mark, but Flemsteen pulled from the pocket to get by on the outside and won in 1:53.3 by a half-length over Oh Look Magic (Kurt Sugg), who came up the passing lane. Forceful Power was third.
Flemsteen, by Explosive Matter out of the Yankee Glide mare Lost Symbol, is owned by trainer Chris Beaver along with Bill Manes and R B H Ventures. The six-year-old gelding now has five seasonal wins in 20 starts with $173,887 banked on the year. His lifetime earnings soared over the $600,000 mark.
Racing continues Saturday with a 15-race card starting at 5:45 p.m.
