Draw Monday For Sun Stakes Saturday

Pocono Downs

Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania would like to remind horsemen in charge of top three-year-olds and/or Invitational horses of its lucrative Sun Stakes Saturday, with more than $2 million USD in purses, set for Saturday (Aug. 17), and which will be drawn Monday (Aug. 12).

The Earl Beal Memorial for three-year-old trotting colts and the Max C. Hempt Memorial for their pacing contemporaries will carry a purse of $300,000 USD for its top division, with $200,000 USD and $100,000 USD consolation events also to be raced if filling. Fillies in the Delmonica Hanover for trotters and James Lynch Memorial for pacers will be racing for bounties of $250,000-$125,000-$75,000 USD in the three levels of their competition (no starting fee in $75,000 USD consolations). If a Consolation race does not fill or if a horse entered fails to be one of the top 24 money earners in 2024, all nominating and sustaining payments will be refunded provided, however, the horse meets the current qualifying standards for the race meeting.

Horses will be put into the various divisions of their races based upon purse money earned in 2024, with the top eight money-winners going for the top purse, the eight next-highest money-winners for the second highest purses, and the third eight going for the other level of purse. The complete conditions for the Sun Stakes event can be found on the U.S. Trotting Association’s website. The condition sheet for the big Saturday card can also be found on the USTA’s website.

The Sun Stakes Saturday card will be buttressed by the $100,000 USD Sebastian K S Invitational Trot and the $100,000 USD Always B Miki Invitational Pace. All horsemen with a top-level free-for-aller should contact Pocono Director Of Racing Rick Kane; Pocono will be racing on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m., and Kane should be available during those times, and perhaps others, at 570.831.2228, and can answer any other questions you may have about the day’s racing.
