Card Set For Ontario Regional At Grand River
Grand River Raceway will be hosting the Ontario Regional Driving Championship Monday, October 20, and the draw results for the 12-dash card are now in. The top two finishers from the event will go on to represent the province in the National Driving Championship.
The National Driving Championship will take place March 21, 2009 at Fraser Downs in Surrey, BC. The winner from that event will represent Canada in the World Driving Championship, which is to take place in Norway over the course of May 14-20, 2009.
Grand River has drawn 12 races for its Monday card, with eight of the dashes doubling as the battleground for the Ontario regional event. Races 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11 will see polished reinsmen Gord Brown, Scott Coulter, Brad Forward, Jody Jamieson, Paul MacDonell, Paul MacKenzie, Bruce Richardson, Mike Saftic and Robert Shepherd fight for the Ontario crown.
"Monday's regional at Grand River is going to depend quite a bit on the horses and posts -- after that you make your own luck," Jamieson told Trot Insider earlier this week. "I consider myself a half-mile specialist and I'm going to be in there facing off with a group of half-mile specialists, so we should put on a good competitive show on Monday."
The National Driving Championship will adapt the point system utilized in the World Driving Championship. Points will be awarded on the order of finish as follows:
Number of Starters: 9
16 (1st)
11 (2nd)
8 (3rd)
