Season 'Wraps' Up At Dresden

Wrap And A Hooey

Dresden Raceway wrapped up the 2024 season on Monday (Aug. 5) afternoon and the aptly named Wrap And A Hooey captured the featured Preferred 3 Handicap Trot.

Garrett Rooney took the Greg Price-trained gelding to the gate in the featured $6,000 class in post three. As the wings drew away, Wrap And A Hooey sprung forward and into the lead. He handled the timer with splits in :29.1, :59.4, and 1:30.3. Without facing a challenge but the timer itself, Wrap And A Hooey wrapped up his mile with a :29.4 panel, winning by three lengths in 2:00.2. Zack To The Max (Andy Moore) was second and Hot Fudge Sundae (Alfred Carroll) finished third.

Wrap And A Hooey (Dontyouforgetit - Flanery Hall) is owned by Price in partnership with Dominic De Santis and Tom Jacobs. The eight-year-old gelding won his second race of the year in six starts and his 26th career tally from 112 starts. He pushed his lifetime sum to $151,396. He returned $8.30 to win.

The 2024 Driver of the Year title was earned by Garrett Rooney, who added a triple on the Monday card to tally 36 winners in the meet. His total purse earnings calculated over $110,000. Nicholas Steward finished second with 19 wins after a triple on the card. Andy Moore and Robert Doyle tied for third with nine wins each.

Cameron McQueen topped the training standings at Dresden Raceway for the 2024 meet, winning half of his starts and yielding $46,656. The London, Ont. resident had 18 wins at the Dresden oval, resulting in a record of 18-12-2 in 36 starts and earning him the 2024 Trainer of the Year title. William Hamm finished second in the standings with eight wins while Angela Carroll completed the top three trainers with five wins.

Larjon Levi ($2.10) won the lone Prospect Series division on the card as sophomore pacing colts went to the gate in the fourth leg of the series. Garrett Rooney piloted the Patrick Bissett student on a gate-to-wire journey to a 4-3/4 length victory in 2:03.

Race eight was declared a no contest after Century J Rock (Nick Steward) stumbled just after the start and pulled up lame according to AGCO judges. Drew The Dragon (Scott Wray) drove up on Century J Rock but got around him safely. Century J Rock was unable to exit the track, at which point the track's lights and sirens were activated and drivers pulled up.

Century J Rock was taken to the Ontario Vet College for diagnostics, while Drew The Dragon was put on the short term vet list for minor injuries. Both drivers were unharmed and good to drive for the remainder of the card.
