"The front hopple just snapped and flew off and the colt kept pacing right through the wire. I saw something fly by me and wasn't sure what it was. It was the freakiest thing I've seen."

Hurrikane Kingcole is ranked at #6 in the Trot 2012 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book with odds of 18-1. Trot Insider spoke to the Cams Card Shark colt's trainer and co-owner, John McDermott for an update on the speedy sophomore who went 5-for-13 as a freshman.

Where did he winter?

"Showplace Farms in New Jersey"

When did you start back with him?

"Last week of December, I had intended to give him more time but he was just tearing down the barn."

Where are you at with him right now?

"He's trained Friday at the Meadowlands in 1:56, pacing in 27 and a piece coming home. His hobbles snapped in the lane. The front hopple just snapped and flew off and the colt kept pacing right through the wire. I saw something fly by and wasn't sure what it was. It was the freakiest thing I've seen."

Have you noticed any changes from last year to this year?

"He's double the horse he was last year. His height is quite a bit bigger, the way he's filled out is amazing - he looks like an aged horse. Sam DePinto saw him on the track, asked me if that was the three-year-old. He said that's the most improved three-year-old I've seen."

When will he qualify?

"First week of May is when we're looking to qualify."

What will his early schedule look like leading up to the Pepsi NA Cup?

"His first race will likely be on May 19 in a NJSS event, then the Rooney [at Yonkers]. No concerns about racing on a half-mile, this horse will go around anything."

What does his tentative schedule look like after the NA Cup?

"After the N.A. Cup, we'll look to the Hempt, Meadowlands Pace, Adios, Confederation Cup. He's staked to everything you can be staked to."
