Serious Effort Thursday From Warrawee Xalt
Warrawee Xalt just missed adding his name to the track record books at Rideau Carleton Raceway, accelerating away from his rivals in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Thursday, Aug. 1.
Driver Ryan Guy wanted Warrawee Xalt to set the fractions in Thursday's feature, and he accomplished that goal by clearing Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay) through a :27.4 opening panel. The 5-2 third choice got a breather with a 30-second quarter before a challenge from favoured Black Tie Bash (Robert Shepherd) on the rim down the backside. The third station was reached in 1:26.1 with Black Tie Bash within a length of the leader, but that's as close as he would get as Warrawee Xalt exploded home with a :27.3 final quarter for the 1:53.4 score. Emma Town Bud was four lengths back in second with Meadowbranch Noble in for show.
A five-year-old altered son of Royalty For Life - Noble Peace Prize, Warrawee Xalt ($7.10) picked up his fifth win of the season and 18th lifetime tally to nudge past the quarter-million dollar mark in career earnings. He's co-owned by his trainer Patrick Dillon and Patti Hoskin of Port Hope, Ont.
The time of the mile was just one-fifth of a second off the aged trotting gelding track record co-held by Goodtimes and Slave Dream.
