Undefeated Filly Headlines Friday's Future Stars
Everyone’s dream in harness racing is to have an undefeated two-year-old trotting filly. And there is one named Chic Choc Rose, who will put her early unbeaten streak on the line on Friday, Aug. 2 at Hippodrome 3R.
Chic Choc Rose hails from the red-hot stable of Marie-Claude Auger, who bred, trains and drives the Royalty For Life-Torches Angel filly that she co-owns with Catheline Pelletier and Arianne Girard.
Chic Choc Rose is the 2-1 morning line favourite in Friday's eighth race, one of two $7,500 divisions of the Future Stars Series for two-year-old trotting fillies. She is currently unbeaten after two starts.
Chic Choc Rose, who will be starting from Post 2, comes into the race off a victory in an opening round division of the series where she led from start to finish in 2:03.3 with Auger in the sulky. That mile was faster than her colt counterparts have trotted.
Her competition in the race includes Massive Emotion (Post 4), who was second to Chic Choc Rose in her last start for driver Pascal Berube and trainer Cassandra Lecourt. The Maxime Velaye-trained Soleo (Post 3) is another top contender for driver Stephane Brosseau.
The $7,500 first division for the fillies is the second race and Denitza Petrova’s Kinnder Kahina heads the field from Post 3 for driver Robert Shepherd. The Northern Escort-Witch Way miss was a game second in her last start, trotting her last quarter mile in :30.2. Kinnder Kahina was bred and is owned and trained by Petrova.
Other rivals in the well-matched field include Miche Charm (Post 1) for driver Guy Gagnon and trainer Jeremy Marcotte, Masoterapeute (Post 2) for trainer/driver Pierre-Marc Longpre and newcomer Elle Est Belle (Post 5), who ships in from Ontario where she was second in a 2:02 qualifying race at Woodbine Mohawk Park and is making her pari-mutuel debut for the renowned Determination stable with Brosseau listed to drive for trainer Catherine Girard.
The trotting colts will battle in the fourth race for a purse of $10,000. The favourite is Muscles Du Haras, a return winner who has drawn Post 2 for driver Auger. Last week, Muscles Du Haras was able to wire the field in a Quebec-bred special, holding on at the finish line by a half a length in 2:04.2. The Muscle Mass-Grace Duharas colt is trained by Claude Cadieux.
Also in the field is series opening round winner Im Just A Gigolo (Post 3) for driver Jerome Lombart, who also bred, owns and trains the colt. He wired the field in his maiden win in 2:07.1.
The race action gets underway on Friday at 4 p.m., with an 11-race card. Sunday’s card starts at 12 noon and features the second round of the Future Stars Series for two-year-old pacers.
