They're Off And 'Pacin N Racin' At KD
Twickenham and Rumbart kicked off the Pacin N Racin Series with a pair of front-end victories in the opening round's $8,500 divisions contested Saturday night at Kawartha Downs
.
Twickenham ($9.10) wired the first division in 1:56.2 with Brad Rae in the bike for trainer Murray Brethour, while his more popular stablemate Machinist had to settle for second. Dg Cash For Life rounded out the top three finishers. The three-year-old Peruvian Hanover-Keystone Liana gelding, now two-for-nine this year, is owned and bred by Dr. Huw R. Llewellyn of Allenford, Ont.
In the second split, Rumbart ($25), driven by Fred Brethour, turned back favourite and eventual third place finisher Ez Otto and held off Artache Hanover by three-quarters of a length for the 1:55.4 score, his first in eight attempts this season. The five-year-old Artesian-Keystone Rumba gelding is trained by Rick Williams, who also co-owns with Frank and Ruth Graham of Lindsay, Ont.
The series is for colts and geldings that are non-winners of $30,000 lifetime as of March 23, 2012.
