Armycaptin Hanover Tops Manitoba Pacers

Racing action at Miami Fair

Armycaptin Hanover capped off the second Miami Fair card of the summer on Saturday, July 27, winning the featured top class.

Armycaptin Hanover followed in the pocket through fractions of :30.1, 1:00.3 and 1:30.1 before launching his attack and conquering the $5,300 Open class in 2:00.2. Driven by Michel Rey and trained by his father Richard, the eight-year-old Captaintreacherous-Allamerican Coed gelding is now two-for-three since arriving in Manitoba from British Columbia and recorded his 44th career victory.

He paid $4.80 to win as the race favourite. Last week's winner Litizor (Don Howlett) closed for second while pacesetter Chazmichaelmichael (Richard Remillard) settled for third.

Armycaptin Hanover is owned by Laverne Turnbull of Kitchener, Ont.

The father and son Howlett team of driver Don and trainer Mathew combined for three wins on the seven-race card, scoring with a pair of maiden-breaking three-year-olds, the colt Voodoo Blue Chip ($5.70) and filly Peekaboo Pebbles ($11.30), as well as the four-year-old mare Singing Ramona ($3.50), who was successful in her provincial debut.

Manitoba racing will return to The Loop next weekend as the Winnipeg meet resumes after a brief break in the schedule on Saturday, Aug. 3.
