Fellows Trainees Perfect At Kawartha
Trainer Kyle Fellows enjoyed a perfect evening at Kawartha Downs, with all three of his starters winning on the Friday, July 26 card.
Fellows sent out the first three winners on the 10-race card, starting with the pacing mare Littlebearcat ($8.20), who shot up the rail to prevail over late-closing longshot Charmbo Stormy by a head in 1:55 flat with Ryan Guy working out the winning pocket trip.
Next up, favourite Arties Ideal ($2.40) combined with Kawartha's leading driver Samuel Fillion for a wire-to-wire victory in 1:52.1 for the Fellows stable. The eight-year-old pacer has made just two appearances at the Fraserville, Ont. oval in his career, winning both.
Blakesagent ($9.70) completed the Fellows triple with Brad Rae catch-driving, as the four-year-old pacer held off favoured Dance Machine by a nose in 1:55.2 after being collared by that rival a week ago.
Coming off a career-best season in 2023 when his stable won 117 races and more than $2.4 million in purses, Fellows has sent out 81 winners so far this year with earnings topping the $1.2 million mark. The 36-year-old horseman from Rockwood, Ont. currently ranks third for wins in the Canadian trainer standings in 2024.
