Freshman trotting fillies spared no expense when bringing the action to MGM Northfield Park for the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes on Tuesday, July 24. Three $68,493 divisions went forth with only one repeat winner.

Dream Something (pictured above) pulled off a 17-1 upset in the first division, winning in 1:58.3 by a neck. Out of the gate, Chris Lems gave the daughter of Uncle Peter the perfect pocket trip. Dream Something never faltered along the rail, even as 1-5 favourite Rose Run Allison (Chris Page) pulled first-over from behind to battle on the front. It wasn’t until the final turn that Dream Something found racing room. Digging in until her final stride, Dream Something nipped Rose Run Allison at the wire. Now two-for-three lifetime, the filly is owned by trainer Miles Wollam along with Julie Ann Sweet and Dale Sweet. Rose Run Allison held on for second while Freedom Hill (Anthony MacDonald) finished third.

The second division was captured by the undefeated filly Mocha Hill in 1:58.1 by more than three lengths. Driven by Page, the daughter of What The Hill was content sitting third along the rail as quarters were set in :28.4, 1:00 and 1:28.4. Page urged the 2-5 favourite to challenge the leader when heading into the final turn. Mocha Hill cruised across the finish, winning for the third time in as many tries. Ron Burke trains the filly, who has has bankrolled more than $75,000 for owners Burke Racing Stable, Hatfield Stables, Weaver Bruscemi and Knox Services. Sienna Sunrise (Luke Hanners) finished second with Aunt Lilly (MacDonald) rounding out the trifecta.

Chrome Trim and Elliott Deaton produced another mild upset in the final division. At 8-1, the Long Tom filly left alertly from the fifth post position. After a miscue from the early leader, Chrome Trim briefly found herself on the front before settling into the pocket behind 1-5 favourite Brink Street (Page). Deaton stayed patient, asking Chrome Trim for more only at the top of the stretch. The filly answered the call with an impressive final quarter before tripping the wire in 2:00.1. The victory marks the first lifetime win in three starts for Chrome Trim. Isaiah Shrake trains and co-owns the freshman alongside Terrie Shrake. Move Over Boys (Aaron Merriman) was second with Brink Street in third.

Ohio Sires Stakes action continues on Thursday, July 25 at Eldorado Scioto Downs. Three divisions of the second leg for two-year-old colt trotters will go behind the gate. First race post time is 5:45 p.m.
