Moreau Students Dominate At Mohawk
Richard Moreau harnessed seven horses on Monday evening, July 22 at Woodbine Mohawk Park with four meeting in the winner's circle and in total six returning in the money. Fashion Frenzie topped all of his stablemates with a victory in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Trot for Moreau.
Despite drawing the outside post in the field of six, Louis-Philippe Roy hit the gas leaving the gate and cleared the lead early with Fashion Frenzie. Without looking back, Fashion Frenzie maintained a two-length lead through stanzas in :26.3, :55 and 1:23.4 before opening up to a 3-1/2-length triumph in 1:52.2. Handsome Sebastian (Trevor Henry) finished second and Franks Angel (Bob McClure) grabbed third. Stablemate to the winner, Gaines Hanover (Sylvain Filion), made a miscue before the start, but was placed in the money in fifth.
The six-year-old son of Archangel and the Striking Sahbra mare Striking Fashion is owned by Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Gestion Mario Bourgea Inc., Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard. He recorded his second triumph in six starts this year. In his career, Fashion Frenzie has banked $1,208,587 to go along with a record of 26-5-2 in 46 starts. He paid $2.60 to win.
In addition to a first and fifth in the feature, Moreau won with Mister Magic ($3.70) and James MacDonald in an $18,000 conditioned trot, finished first with Stonebridge Bravo ($10.90, MacDonald) and second with Nasey (Doug McNair) in a $24,000 conditioned trot, and completed the quadruple tally with Bella Cavalla ($17.90, MacDonald) in the final $18,000 conditioned trot.
