Daisy Corvette Does It Again
Daisy Corvette reeled in the pacesetting Outlaw Sharktastic for the second straight week to win the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Century Downs on Friday, July 19.
Following up a winning pocket trip last Friday, Daisy Corvette had some ground to make up from sixth down the backstretch this time out and she angled three-wide past the fading first-over challenger with a quarter-mile to go to catch the front-striding Outlaw Sharktastic by a head at the finish line in 1:53.4. Dave Kelly was the winning catch-driver behind the five-year-old Mystician mare, who knocked a tick off her season's mark. Outlaw Sharktastic and trainer/driver Nathan Sobey had set fractions of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:24.2 while turning back a wide-racing Century Mach before settling for the runner-up honours once again. Grey Sea and Tyler Redwood followed the winner's cover from the backfield and finished third.
Daisy Corvette has now earned three of her four seasonal wins in her last three starts for trainer Shanisty Andres and owner Tammy Murschell of Medicine Hat, Alta. Lifetime, she's won 17 of her 55 races with earnings topping the $150,000 mark.
Daisy Corvette paid $9.80 to win as the 7-2 third choice in the full field of nine distaffers.
