Tess Waxman Achieves First Training Win

At the start of the month, Tess Waxman debuted as a trainer and three starts later on Tuesday, July 16, the Ridgeville, Ont. resident recorded her first career training win at Georgian Downs with Capt Jack Hanover.

Fern Hill Breeze (Travis Henry) was the first to notch the quarter in :27.4, but after that mark, Capt Jack Hanover and Colin Kelly took over and never looked back. Kelly took the Waxman student through splits in :56.3 and 1:25.2 before continuing on to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55.3. Fern Hill Breeze finished second and Heresthatmanagain (Stephen Byron) was third.

Waxman trains the six-year-old gelded son of Captaintreacherous and the Western Ideal mare Current Hanover for Claude Baril. Capt Jack Hanover recorded his fifth win of the season and 16th career tally. In 82 starts, he has banked $231,216. He returned $3.10 as the bettors' choice.
