Logan Park Headlines Abbreviated Qualifying Session
O'Brien Award-winning older trotter Logan Park splashed to victory unopposed during the Tuesday morning, July 16 qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park that was cut short due to unrelenting rain.
Driven by Doug McNair in the fourth qualifier before the rest were called off, Logan Park easily crossed to command off the gate and led a field of five older trotters through fractions of :30, :59.1 and 1:28.4 in the sloppy conditions. The Kyle Fellows trainee closed out the mile with a :27.3 final quarter to win by 4-3/4 lengths in 1:56.2 with the track rated two second off. Mercutio finished second and New Holland Series champion Special Mission was third in their return appearances at Mohawk.
Logan Park was a 1:52.2 winner in the Preferred last time out on July 1 and has four wins and two seconds from six starts this year. The millionaire six-year-old son of Archangel is owned by Outofthepark Stable, breeder Reg Higgs and Arpad Szabo.
The heavy rain in the Campbellville, Ont. areathroughout the morning led to deteriorating track conditions, forcing the cancellation of the remaining four qualifying races remaining.
The first three qualifiers were won by the Shawn Steacy-trained two-year-old pacing filly Cant See Me (Captaintreacherous-Unseen) in 1:57; sophomore trotting gelding Salem Seelster (Muscle Mass-Speak Of The Devil) in 1:58 for trainer Luc Blais; and the Ian Moore stable's debuting two-year-old pacing colt Joel And The Jets (Stay Hungry-Betty And The Jets) in 1:57.4.
Mohawk's track team will use the remainder of Tuesday morning and afternoon to prepare the surface for tonight’s card of live harness racing. Post time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
The next qualifying session is scheduled for Friday, July 19 at 9:30 a.m.
