Playa Duharas Scores Ninth Straight Win At Georgian
The first start for new connections provided a familiar result for Playa Duharas as she extended her win streak to nine on Sunday, July 14 at Georgian Downs.
Taking on filly and mare $8,000 claimers, driver Colin Kelly hopped in the bike this week for the streaking pacing mare. Leaving from post three, Kelly settled the 1-5 favourite in the pocket spot early while Bettor Deal (Brett MacDonald) led to the opening quarter in :28.2. Playa Duharas moved from second to take command prior to crossing the line the first time before leading the field to the half in :58.3.
Playa Duharas reached the three-quarter pole in 1:27 on the engine as Cove Beach (Daryl Thiessen) popped out from third first-over to challenge the leader. Playa Duharas countered and quickened on the final turn, spinning for home 1-1/2 lengths clear. Bettor Deal would make one final run at the leader late but would come up a length short as Playa Duharas crossed the wire first in 1:56.2. Watch Me Dance (Steve Byron) rallied to finish third.
Playa Duharas was claimed for $10,000 after her last outing on July 7 by Cory Guthrie along with trainer Randy Ertel. The victory was the 25th in the career of the eight-year-old daughter of Sunshine Beach-Histoire Duharas with 13 of those victories coming in her 25 outings in 2024. Playa Duharas has now banked $123,213 for her career.
