Whittemore Goes On Vernon Winning Spree
Driver Jimmy Whittemore went on a winning spree on Saturday, July 13 at Vernon Downs, finishing first in half of the 12 races, including the featured pace with his own trainee Major Leaguer.
In the featured $8,904 conditioned pace, Snap Call (Steeven Genois) cut the fractions of :26.4, :55.2 and 1:24.3 to three-quarters. Favourite Kisses From Above (Leon Bailey) popped the pocket going around the final turn and had the lead by the stretch, but Major Leaguer rallied from off the pace to take command and then braced for the late-charging Northern Rein (Josh Kinney). Major Leaguer dug in and won by a neck in 1:53.3 while Northern Rein settled for second. Prairie Classic (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) finished 2-1/4 lengths back in third.
Major Leaguer paid $7 to win as the 5-2 second choice. The 10-year-old gelding by Art Major notched his third win of season from 13 starts and now has 43 victories lifetime.
Whittemore won the first four races of the night and the finale to go with his feature win. His other winners were Immaculate Prayer ($31) for trainer Hannah Miller, Simple Man ($9.10) for Kenneth Dawson, his own trainee Only Passing Thru ($5.10), Dancing Lisa ($13.60) for Cassie Russo and Billy V ($7.50) for Leopold Sawyers.
Sawyers also owns and trains Lucky Sevens ($9.90), who was a 1:56.3 victor in Saturday's $8,904 featured trot with Steeven Genois in the race bike.
Live harness racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday, July 19, with post time at 4 p.m.
