Whichwaytothebeach continued his winning ways as he held off the upset-minded Jabberwocky in the Saturday, July 13 edition of the weekly $36,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The popular Garry Merner trainee earned his fourth straight win with Sylvain Filion sending him on a successful front-end mission, setting splits of :27, :55.1 and 1:22.2 before holding off the the pylon-skimming 14-1 longshot by a neck at the wire in 1:49 flat. A late first-up Blue Hunt finished 1-1/4 lengths back in third.
Coming off back-to-back Preferred-level victories including a career-best 1:48.4 score a week ago, Whichwaytothebeach paid $3.90 to win as the 4-5 bettors' choice.
The six-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Swinging Beauty gelding improved his seasonal record to 6-4-2 from 18 starts while his annual income climbed to $137,300 for owner Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont.
A winner of 24 races lifetime, Whichwaytothebeach has amassed earnings totalling $913,053.
Whichwaytothebeach's victory was followed by his Tyler Jones-driven stablemate The Greek Freak's career-best 1:49.1 score in the finale for a Merner sweep of the late Daily Double, which paid $20.40 with the pair of favourites delivering on their pari-mutuel promises.
