Big Petes Style Scores 50th Career Win
Big Petes Style hit a big win mark on Friday night, July 12 when he prevailed in a three-way photo finish at Kawartha Downs.
The 12-year-old pacer earned his 50th career win in the fifth race for $8,000 claimers, edging out 1-9 favourite Mortgage My Villa and Julio Lauxmont by a head in 1:57.1. Ryan Guy drove Big Petes Style for the milestone win. Sent off at odds of 5-1, he returned $13.20 to his backers.
A popular claimer, Big Petes Style has changed barns via the claiming box 20 times throughout his career for a total value of $215,500. He is currently trained by Michael Armstrong for owner Rachel Burns.
The gelding by Jeremes Jet out of the Breeders Crown-winning Artsplace mare, Stylish Artist, is half-brother to two-time O'Brien Award divisional champion Tattoo Artist.
Big Petes Style has banked more than $300,000 with a record reading 50-40-34 from 269 career starts and sports a lifetime mark of 1:51.3 taken at Woodbine Racetrack during his six-year-old campaign in 2018. His win count was bolstered by a career-year in 2020 when he won 18 of 36 races and nearly $75,000.
The majority of his victories have occurred at Rideau Carleton Raceway although he has also won races at Flamboro Downs, Georgian Downs, Hiawartha Horse Park, Kawartha Downs, Woodbine Mohawk Park, Western Fair Raceway and Woodbine Racetrack.
