Daughters of Green Manalishi S prevailed on Thursday evening, July 11 at Woodbine Mohawk Park with Monalishi and Baden Baden upsetting in their respective $95,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold classes for freshman trotting fillies. 

Monalishi was the swiftest of the pair of Gold winners with a 1:55.3 mile for her first triumph. 

Jody Jamieson rocketed the Blake MacIntosh student from post seven to the top, maintaining position through the quarter in :28.2. Parked out, Exquisite Taste (Louis-Philippe Roy) swept to take command en route to the half in :58.2 and through the three-quarters in 1:27.3. Monalishi battled back in the final turn and took back control of the lead, continuing home in :27.4 to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. Exquisite Taste had to settle for second and Lil Sweet (Doug McNair) was third.

"We had three on our list at Harrisburg and [Monalishi] was my favourite. The other two went over our price range so we ended up with her and I was really happy with that. I just liked the way she looked. To me, she was just the best looking one," said MacIntosh.

"We have three [Green Manalishi S trotters]," he added. "The other one is in the Grassroots on Tuesday. She was fourth in the Tompkins Geers last week, she is really nice. And then we've got a colt that raced in the Gold the other night. He came up a little sick, but I think they are really smart and have a great gait to them."

Monalishi is a two-year-old daughter of Green Manalishi S and the RC Royalty mare Pretty Phylly G. Owned by Tim Klemencic and MacIntosh, she earned her first win in two starts, producing earnings of $47,500. At 13-1 odds, she paid $27 to win.

Baden Baden upset the second division at 14-1 odds with Tyler Jones in the bike for trainer Duncan Brewer, who co-owns the filly with Randell Urquhart and Steve Deady.

Jones took the filly to the gate as post four in the field of eight. A couple of early breakers trailed the field and Baden Baden eased off the gate into seventh. With another miscue at the top of the field at the :29 quarter, Baden Baden was left in sixth through the half in :58.2. Green Mans Joey (Mario Baillargeon) was the first to pull a right line and Baden Baden followed suit. The three-quarters was clocked in 1:28.2 while Jones and the Brewer student continued their journey overland. Baden Baden used a :27.4 final panel to sweep past her opponents and take the win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:57.2. Sprite Seelster (Tyler Borth) took second off a pocket trip and The Green Book (Trevor Henry) rounded out the top three.

"I think [Green Manalishi S trotters] have a very elegant gait," said Jones. "They can go. They don't interfere a lot and every one I've sat behind or had an eye on, like Blake's filly [Monalishi], she's got an unbelievable gait. Just a free-flowing trotter."

Baden Baden is a freshman daughter of Green Manalishi S and the Andover Hall mare Cape Coral. She earned her first career tally in three tries, adding the lion's share of the purse to total earnings of $48,300. She returned $30.20 to win.
