Distance Day Returns To Truro Raceway

Truro Raceway will host its second annual Distance Day this Friday, July 12 with post time at 6:30 p.m.

Last year during the inaugural event, two new Canadian records were established and fans enjoyed the unique race card.

On Friday's 11-race program, there will be six races contested at three different distances, including a newly added quarter-mile showdown, with five horses aiming to establish a new Canadian record at the rarely used distance.

The card includes three 1-1/4-mile races. Last year, Nova Scotia Strong set a Canadian record over a half-mile track at the distance with a 2:29 score for driver Darren Crowe.

There will be two races contested at the distance of three-quarters of a mile. Risin Horizon smashed the existing mark in last year’s event, with a 1:25.1 score with Paul Langille driving.

“We’re looking to do something unique and different than just running our usual races and fans were very interested and enthusiastic about the event last year," said Steve Fitzsimmons, Truro Raceway General Manager. "I appreciate the support of the horsepeople in this venture.  We’ve added the quarter-mile race this season to build on what we did last year. We’re expecting to see a Canadian record at that distance.”

Truro Raceway will also have Family Fun Day as part of the event, with a bouncy castle, face painting and snow cones on site for kids to enjoy from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
