Kinnder Hotblood Upsets In OSS Gold Mid-Season Final

Kinnder Hotblood won a front-end speed duel with R Liza and captured the $150,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series mid-season final for three-year-old trotting fillies on Saturday, July 6 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

With Kinnder Hotblood (Matt Bax) hot on her heels, R Liza (Sylvain Filion) held forth through fractions of :28.1, :57.3 and 1:25.1. But Kinnder Hotblood got a head in front at the wire to win in 1:54. R Liza hung on for second, followed by Valuable Miss (Brett MacDonald) in third.

Bax also trains the Kadabra filly for the Bax Stable of Campbellville, Ont., David R. Hudson of Dallas, Tex., Gaelic Stable 2 and The Cavalier Stable of Sharon, Ont. Kinnder Hotblood has five wins in eights starts this year and a bankroll of $133,230. He paid a whopping $106 on a $2 win ticket.

Two $95,000 OSS Gold Series eliminations among the two-year-old pacing fillies were also on top as part of Saturday's game. Unbeaten Wicked N Single (Jonathan Drury) got past leader Dee at the head of the stretch and carried on to win by 5-1/2 lengths in 1:53.3. Perfectly Chic (Bob McClure) was second, with Lady Cafe Au Lait (Filion) third.

Anthony Beaton trains the McWicked filly for owners Lisa A Lefort of Waterdown, Ont. and David L. Mercer of Westmount, N.S. Wicked N Single is a perfect two-for-two with earnings of $70,922.

The second elimination also went to a McWicked-sired filly as Wicked Pace (Doug McNair) won by a head in 1:52.3. Millie May Hanover (Filion) was second, followed across the line by Wicked Cruizer (McClure) in third.

Paul Cameron trains Wicked Pace and co-owns the filly with Jayme E. Cameron of Guelph, Ont., and Arnolds Horse Shack of Mississauga, Ont. Wicked Pace shows a bankroll of $59,500 with two wins and a second from three lifetime starts.

Racing resumes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, July 8 with a 7:10 p.m. post time.
