Teelatini Tops Indiana Sire Stakes At Hoosier
A week of Indiana Sire Stakes action at Harrah’s Hoosier Park concluded with a lone $130,822 race for three-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday, June 29. Serving as the 10th race on the 12-race card, Teelatini emerged atop a four-across drive to the wire to claim her second straight victory.
Leaving from post five in the field of nine, driver Pete Wrenn settled Teelatini mid-pack in fifth while Lyin Eyes (Joey Putnam) protected their rail starting position to lead the fillies to the quarter in :28. Atlee Bender wheeled Jada Caroline out from third on the backstretch, taking command from Lyin Eyes just beyond the half in :57.1.
Entering the final turn, Teelatini flushed the cover of even-money favourite Lets Go Endofaera (John De Long), who led the charge first-over while Jada Caroline brought the field to three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Turning for home, Lyin Eyes popped pocket to engage Jada Caroline and hit the top of the lane a head in front as Teelatini tipped off of cover to begin her stretch rally. Lyin Eyes and Jada Caroline continued to trade blows in the stretch as Teelatini gobbled up ground with a :26 final quarter, surging in deep-stretch to nail the duelling fillies by a head on the line in 1:51.2. Lyin Eyes finished second, Jada Caroline third and Lets Go Endofaera rounded out the superfecta, just a half-length back crossing the wire.
Now a two-time winner in five seasonal outings, the homebred daughter of Rockin Image-Nightcap is owned by William C. and William P. De Long. Trained by Roger Welch, Teelatini now sports a career bankroll of $358,739 following the eighth victory in her 14 career lifetime starts.
Racing returns to Harrah’s Hoosier Park on Tuesday, July 2 with a 13-race card set to get underway at 6:15 p.m. The Tuesday card will feature a carryover of $3,153.99 in the Jackpot Pick 6 (Races 8-13), to go along with the $10,000 guarantee in the Hoosier High 5 (Race 13).
