Blue Hunt Relentless In Mohawk Feature

Blue Hunt

Coming off a fourth-place finish in the $100,000 Gold Cup at Woodbine Mohawk Park last week, Blue Hunt set up in a tough field on Saturday evening, June 22 in the featured $28,000 conditioned pace, winning in 1:48.4 at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.

Blue Hunt never found the wood early in the featured mile, getting away fourth on the outside with Ed Hensley in the bike. Dupree Hanover (Doug McNair) set the tone with an opening quarter in :26.3 before being overtaken by Clever Cody (Sylvain Filion). Clever Cody hit the half in :54.1 as Blue Hunt made his way up on the outside.

Blue Hunt was the first to the three-quarters in 1:21, finally finding space near the pylons for the first time in the mile. He opened up his lead to 3-1/2 lengths, but the lead narrowed with a charging millionaire American History (Dale Spence) at his heels. Blue Hunt did not back down and turned on the afterburners to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:48.4. American History finished second and Control Heaven (Tyler Borth) took the show spot.

The four-year-old gelded son of Huntsville and the Betterthancheddar mare All On Top Hanover won his third race in 15 starts this season and has earned $77,058 of his $363,779 career bankroll in his four-year-old campaign thus far. Blue Hunt moved his career record to 9-7-4 from 46 starts. He returned $6.30 as the bettors' choice.
