The Track On 2 Season Opener Set For Sunday
The 2024 harness racing meet at Track On 2 in will begin this weekend with post time for an eight-race card on Sunday, June 23 at 1:10 p.m.
The Opening Day feature at the one-mile Lacombe, Alta. oval is the $5,300 fourth race conditioned pace. Lunch Pail Guy, a four-year-old Santanna Blue Chip gelding, is the 3-1 morning line favourite and will leave from the middle of the five-pack for the Track On 2 defending training and driving champion, Dave Kelly. The Kelly stable will also send out inside starter Riskofthunderstorm in the field with Logan Gillis listed to drive.
The pair are among the stable's six starters in three races on the day for Kelly, who also has drives in a total of seven races as he sets out to defend his track titles. Kelly dominated the Track On 2 standings in 2023 with more than double the wins of his nearest competitor. He drove 42 horses to victory lane and trained 26 winners.
Live racing will resume with a 4:15 p.m. card on Saturday, June 29 the following week. Racing will then be held every Sunday until the meet finale on Sept. 15, with Friday and Saturday cards added for the first two weeks in September.
