JD Magic Moon Upsets At Grand River
JD Magic Moon took home an 11-1 upset victory on Wednesday (June 19) at Grand River Raceway in the featured $8,800 conditioned trot.
Jason Ryan backed up his own training double as he took his second student of the day, JD Magic Moon to the gate in post six. Ryan eased the gelding off the car into fifth position and watched as the quarter clicked :27.4 and the half was hit in :57.1. After the half mile marker, Ryan tugged on his right line and moved JD Magic Moon overland, still maintaining fifth as they passed the three-quarters in 1:26.4. Second choice Wolinak (Tyler Moore) led the field for most of the mile and was not going to back down without a fight. Down to the wire, a photo finish separated Wolinak and JD Magic Moon by a head, with the latter winning in 1:56.4. Wolinak had to settle for second and Royal Champane (Paul MacKenzie) took third.
JD Magic Moon is owned by William Beacham and Gavin Christie for his 10th career win from 51 starts. In 19 starts this year, the four-year-old Donato Hanover - Cr Ms American Pie gelding has returned victorious on six occasions, hitting the board 11 times. Despite his success, he was sent out at 11-1 odds, returning $23.40 to his backers.
