Vernon Hosts NYSS Sophomore Fillies Friday
Vernon Downs will host two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for three-year-old pacing fillies on Friday, June 21.
Peace Talks (pictured above) is the one to beat in the $57,000 USD first division, starting outside of four foes with Jason Bartlett listed to drive. The reigning divisional champion by American Ideal is trained by Chris Ryder. She is two-for-three this season, including NYSS wins at Tioga Downs and Buffalo Raceway, and has a total of four career victories with earnings topping $350,000 through 15 starts lifetime.
The Ron Burke-trained Camerican is her top rival, starting one slot inside with Jim Marohn Jr. A Grand Circuit stakes winner as a freshman, the filly by American Ideal opened her sophomore season with a victory prior to picking up cheques in the opening NYSS legs. She has won more than $300,000 in her career.
Ryder also trains the morning line favourite in the second division, Tarrific. The filly by Huntsville will start from post four of five with Bartlett in the bike. Winless as a freshman, she is coming off an impressive maiden victory in the NYSS leg at Tioga.
Leannes Choice, with Marcus Miller aboard in post two, is the second morning line favourite in the second division. Erv Miller trains the filly by Courtly Choice who has three seconds in her four starts as a sophomore after going three-for-five as a two-year-old.
The 15-race card starts at 4 p.m.
