Power Code Impressive During Friday Baby Races
While there's a good chance a number of two-year-olds from Cattlewash will be hitting the track in 2025, some of his first stateside crop are already turning heads in 2024.
There were 12 dashes for the boys during the session of two-year-old qualifiers on Friday, June 14 at Woodbine Mohawk Park with Power Code setting the speed standard to close out the baby races with an exclamation point performance.
Jody Jamieson guided the son of Cattlewash - Code In through his second outing of the season, going wire-to-wire in a time of 1:55.1 — home in :27 — to make Power Code the fastest freshman in Canada thus far. Jamieson co-owns Power Code with his father Carl, as the tandem ponied up $40,000 to pluck the yearling from the Winbak Farm consignment at Lexington last fall.
Courts On Fire was second for driver Tyler Borth, three lengths back of the leader.
On the trotting side, the speed didn't break the early season Canadian record but it did match it. The flashy grey Go Ahead Makemyday made a sudden impact in his second effort of the season, winning on the engine for driver Sylvain Filion in 2:00.2, more than five lengths up on Teatrix (Tyler Jones).
A $17,000 Lexington yearling bred by Riina Rekila, Go Ahead Makemyday (Walner - Uvie Hanover) is owned by trainer Blake MacIntosh along with Van Camp Trotting Corp. of Port Perry, Ont., Mortgage Boys Stable of Fayetteville, N.Y. and Ozzie Mackay of Moncton, N.B.
