Skyway Paige Soars In Hoosier INSS
Round two of Indiana Sire Stakes got underway at Harrah’s Hoosier Park with a lone $131,507 division for sophomore trotting fillies which highlighted the 14-race card on Wednesday, June 12. Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Skyway Paige lived up to the bettors' expectations off of the perfect pocket trip with driver LeWayne Miller.
Leaving from post five in the full field of 10, Miller hustled Skyway Paige to the front of the pack off the gate to take the trotting fillies to the quarter pole in :28.2 while Agent Of Fortune (Robert Taylor) applied pressure on the outside of the leader. Skyway Paige relinquished control of the field on the backstretch, allowing Agent Of Fortune to clear and lead to the halfway point in :57.3. Sunny Sundries (Joey Putnam) uncorked a first-over rally entering the final turn, moving from sixth to reach the leader’s wheel at three quarters in 1:27.1 while Skyway Paige stalked from the pocket in third.
Turning for home, Agent Of Fortune rebuffed the challenge of Sunny Sundries at the top of the lane as Skyway Paige searched for daylight to the inside of the leader. Pouncing in the passing lane, Skyway Paige unleashed a :27.2 final quarter to drive to the front and find victory by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:54.4. Hail Broadway (Jordan Ross) shook loose late to rally for the place position, with the previously unbeaten Agent Of Fortune holding for third. Skyway Paige returned $3.20 to win at the betting windows.
Trained by Susan Miller for owners L&S Racing, D&S Stable, Ryan Raber and Anthony Swartzentruber, Skyway Paige is now perfect through two starts in 2024. Bred by Kenneth Slabach, the daughter of Swan For All-Prismatica now boasts a career bankroll of $313,393 following her fifth career victory.
Racing continues on Thursday, June 13 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park with a 14-race card set to get underway at 6:15 p.m. Featured on the Thursday card are two-divisions of the second leg of Indiana Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts, to go along with $10,000 guarantees on both the Late Pick 4 (races 11-14) and Hoosier High 5 (race 14).
