Huge Upset By Woodmere Rollnpop At Grand River
Woodmere Rollnpop won in a career best 1:51.2 in the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Grand River Raceway in a 33-1 upset on Monday, June 10.
Travis Henry and the Garry Merner student started as the lone starter in the second tier from post nine. As the car pulled away, favoured Larry Karr (Austin Sorrie) set up as the pacesetter for the mile while Woodmere Rollnpop got away fifth. Woodmere Rollnpop maintained position through fractions in :26.1 and :53.4 before pulling second over en route to the three quarters in 1:22.1, following the cover of It Takes Two (Jason Ryan). Woodmere Rollnpop achieved the lead down the stretch and kept going to a two length score in 1:51.2. It Takes Two took second and I Ama Rocket (J Harris) completed the triactor.
Woodmere Rollnpop is a seven-year-old Rollwithitharry - Shadow Dancer gelding owned by Andrea Leon. In 130 career starts, he has won 30 times with a bankroll reading $177,702. This year, he has made six trips to the winner's circle in 15 starts. He returned $68.30 as the upset victor. The 1:51.2 mark was not only a lifetime mark for Woodmere Rollnpop, but also the swiftest mile over the five-eighths mile surface at Grand River thus far.
