Dougs Babe By A Nose In Yonkers Invite
Lasting on the lead, Dougs Babe A prevailed by a nose in the $53,425 Fillies & Mares Invitational Pace on Friday, June 7 at Yonkers Raceway.
Driven by Austin Siegelman, Dougs Babe A led through fractions of :26.3, :55 and 1:23.2, then held on through the lane to win by a nose over pocket-pursuer Coachellabound N (Jason Bartlett) in 1:51.4. Golden Quest N (George Brennan) followed in third, finishing 2-3/4 lengths behind.
A seven-year-old daughter of Western Terror, Dougs Babe A is trained by Nifty Norman for owners Tom Vassiliou, Nicholas Tallarico and Enzed Racing Stable Inc. This was her 21st career win and she has now earned $467,491. Dougs Babe A was coming off a fourth-place finish in a record-setting Betsy Ross Invitational at Harrah's Philadelphia and now has two wins from 10 seasonal starts -- her first was in a leg of Yonkers Raceway's Blue Chip Matchmaker Series.
She paid $9.90 to win as a 7-2 offering. The exacta was worth $39.80 and the trifecta kicked back $93.
There were no winning tickets in the Pick-5 sequence on Friday night, leading to a $4,507.82 carryover and a $15,000 guaranteed pool in the wager on Saturday night's 7 p.m. program. The guarantee in the Pick-5 is being offered as part of the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program.
