Riley Stable Off To A Hot Start At Kawartha Downs
Off to a successful start at the 2024 Kawartha Downs meet, Tommy Riley earned another training triple on Friday, June 7, marking the third consecutive card that the horseman has won three or more races at the Fraserville, Ont. oval.
Riley trainees swept the early Daily Double ($20.30) to kick off Friday's nine-race card with the opener going to Shadow Warrior ($7.90) and Jimmy Gagnon in 1:57.4 by 1-1/2 lengths while his favoured stablemate Toot Toot N finished third with Samuel Fillion in the sulky. Dance Machine ($3.60) romped to a 7-3/4-length victory in 1:54.2 next in rein to Fillion. Majestic Virgin ($2.90) and Fillion later completed Riley's triple in the eighth race with a 2-1/4-length victory in 1:56.4, marking the mare's third win in her last four Kawartha starts.
Riley, Kawartha's 2023 leading trainer, scored a victory during the new meet's Opening Night on May 17 and has sent out at least three winners each following Friday (four last week). The Roseneath, Ont. horseman earned 21 of his 58 wins last year at Kawartha during a career-best campaign. He's already won 31 races in 2024.
