Lime In Da Coconut Wins Dresden Opening Day Feature
Lime In Da Coconut provided trainer/owner Randy Parish a perfect ending to Opening Day of the 2024 harness racing season at Dresden Raceway on Sunday, May 26.
The six-year-old Big Jim gelding capped off the afternoon's eight-race card, winning the featured $4,600 conditioned pace by seven lengths in 1:57 flat. Nick Steward worked out the winning pocket trip in rein to favoured Lime In Da Coconut ($3.90), who was followed across the wire by Takeyourbreathaway in second and Easy Flyer, who finished third after setting fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.1.
Steward kicked off the opening card with a bang, sweeping the early Daily Double with back-to-back 12-length wins courtesy of the Darryl Laver-trained maiden-breaking filly Premier Elsa ($3.10) in 1:59.2 and the Michael Stamp stable's claiming pacer Mister Rebbily A ($2.70) in 1:58.3.
Dresden's defending driving champion Garrett Rooney one-upped Steward to start the meet back atop the driver standings, sweeping half of the day's races.
Live harness racing will continue at Dresden Raceway on Sundays running through July, in addition to Canada Day on Monday, July 1 and the Civic Holiday on Monday, Aug. 5.
Horsepeople are reminded that, effective June 2, 2024, those wishing to race horses currently on the Lasix program can stay on Lasix and enter those horses at Dresden.
