Mass Money Repeats In City Of London Trotting Series
The City Of London Series for trotters continued on Friday evening, May 24 at The Raceway at Western Fair District with the Mark Etsell-trained Mass Money repeating in the fillies and mares division.
A winner in the opening leg of the series last Friday, driver Scott Young worked out a similar trip in round two for Mass Money, sending the favourite first-up from third after the first lap and defeating the front-striding Moxiebow by half a length. After going winless in five starts as a two-year-old, the Muscle Mass-P L Gemstone filly is now three-for-three in her sophomore year with her latest victory a new lifetime best, clocked in 2:00. Etsell trains and shares ownership of the winner with Robert Newton, Peter Porter and Lindsey Turner. He also drove his maiden filly Tymal Contessa to a fourth-place finish with the show prize going to Hallie Intheclouds.
The division for male trotters went to the Gregg McNair-trained Arcadia Seelster, who battled HP Musical Alarm on the front through the final quarter and prevailed in an 8-1 upset by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59.1 for local owners Ross and Brent Holmes. Travis Henry drove the three-year-old Muscle Mass-Angels N Heaven colt to a maiden-breaking victory, ending a streak of three fourth-place finishes to start his career. Teasin rounded out the top three.
The preliminary leg divisions were each worth $8,000 with the $20,000 (added) finals scheduled for Camluck Classic night next Friday, May 31.
The City Of London Series is for Ontario-sired horses four years old and younger that were non-winners of $10,000 lifetime as of midnight March 1, 2024.
