Dresden Gearing Up For Sunday Opener

Harness racing at Dresden Raceway

Dresden Raceway is ready to kick off another exciting season of harness racing this Sunday, May 26.

Opening Day at Dresden Raceway this year is also Ladies Day, featuring the fan favourite "Kentucky Derby-Style Hat Day" where patrons are asked to wear their fanciest hat to the track, with an opportunity to win some wonderful gift baskets.

In between races, draws will be held for gift cards from Home Depot, Rona, Walmart and Canadian Tire. Fans can enjoy a mint julep or a homemade Caesar cocktail and play cornhole between the races while enjoying the festivities and the racing action.

Prizes will also be given away in between every race from local sponsors including McKellar's Flowers, Subway, The Track Kitchen, Mario's Pizza, Dresden Foodland, Dominos, JMHI, Boston Pizza and more.

Dresden's new high-definition toteboard will bring 150 years of racing into 2024 so fans can enjoy every aspect of the races up close and personal.

The track's feature races this year include the Mark Austin Memorial Pace finals on June 16, the Ken Houston Memorial Pace on July 7 and a day honouring horsemen Dean Stevens and James Snelgrove on June 23. Visit the track's website for more information.

Doors open at noon with post time for the first race set at 1 p.m. (EDT).

The entry box closes at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
