Racing Returns To Kawartha Downs
Three-year-old pacing filly Rock Solid Love kicked off the 52nd harness racing season at Kawartha Downs in Fraserville, Ont. on Friday night, May 17.
Rock Solid Love and driver Brad Rae opened the 10-race card with an 8-1 upset victory in 1:59, going from last to first and besting stablemate Tomi Senorita by a head for trainer Murray Brethour, who also co-owns the winning American Ideal miss with Peyton Scott and Bruce Northover. She returned $19.60 for a $2 win ticket.
Samuel Fillion and Tommy Riley, last season's top driver and trainer at Kawartha Downs, teamed up for a victory on opening night with four-year-old pacing mare Miss Dew Write ($3.30) holding off Acefortyfour Daisy by a head in 1:56. The win in the fifth race was the third of the night for Fillion.
Denise Ball's homebred Ricky Resolve ($2.50) launched his five-year-old campaign with a 1:58 four-length victory in the featured $5,000 ninth race, a conditioned-optional $15,000 claiming trot. The popular chestnut gelding by Resolve was driven by Samara Johnson and is trained by Mark Johnson.
Live harness racing will take place on Friday nights throughout the Kawartha Downs meet, which runs through Sept. 13. Post time is 7 p.m.
