Repeat Winners In Raindrop Series

The Raindrop Series continued on Friday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway with Erge Baboche and Katies Victory earning their second wins in preliminary action

In the first of three $6,700 third leg divisions, five-year-old trotter Erge Baboche ($3.40) and driver Denis St. Pierre pulled the pocket after the opening quarter and scooted away to a three and three-quarter length score in a career-best time of 2:00.2. The grey Newtown-Flashdance Merit gelding, who won his first round division and was a runner-up in the second leg, is bred, owned and trained by Eric Poisson of Becancour, Que.

Seven-year-old mare Katies Victory ($4.90) converted a pocket trip into a career-best 1:59.2 four and a half triumph as pacesetter Possessive Power broke stride. The S Js Photo-Questionable Katie mare, driven by John MacDonald for trainer Ron MacDonald and owner Shelley Gass of Cornwall, P.E.I., earned her second straight series win after a sixth place showing in the opening round. Meanwhile, three-year-old gelding Star Photo, who was undefeated in his first four career starts, finished fourth.

St. Pierre, a four-time winner on the 15-race card, also won a later Raindrop division with the front-striding Eminent Domain ($6.60). The four-year-old Muscles Yankee-Vanity Hall mare turned back Fugitif Mirabel en route to a 2:02.4 victory for trainer Sam Sergi, who co-owns with Michael Sergi and Daniel Fay of Canton, New York. Eminent Domain finished second in her only other preliminary leg last week.

The Raindrop Series is for non-winners of $15,000 (fillies and mares $18,750) lifetime as of Dec. 31, 2011.
