Workinitonbroadway Holds On To Win Western Fair Feature
Workinitonbroadway went to work down the lane as trainer/driver Don Rankin Jr. urged the eight-year-old trotter home to stave off the oncoming Monteverdi in Tuesday night's featured $8,400 conditioned trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Workinonbroadway crossed to command from the outside post by the first turn and led the compact field of five through fractions of :30, 1:00.4 and 1:30.1 with Monteverdi and Natasha Day moving first-over from mid-pack down the backstretch the final time. Monteverdi ranged up to take second and closed with a fury through the stretch, but Rankin mustered just enough from his trotter to prevail by a neck at the finish line in 1:59.4. Favourite Stonebridge Zeus and Scott Wray won a show photo, finishing three lengths behind the top pair.
Workinitonbroadway paid $10.30 to win as the 4-1 third choice on the toteboard. Owned by Rankin and Chris Hadrian, the Broadway Hall gelding now has four wins from 17 starts this year. His 47th career win pushed his bankroll over $380,000.
