Uncontrollable Leads All The Way In 3R Preferred
Driver Marie-Claude Auger was in full control of the proceedings in the featured $5,000 Preferred Pace as she steered six-year-old gelding Uncontrollable to a wire-to-wire victory at Hippodrome 3R on Sunday, May 12.
Auger and Uncontrollable shot right to the lead from post five and never looked back, setting fractions of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:27.4 en route to a 1:57.1 triumph by three-quarters of a length over last week’s top class winner, Thedoginthefight (Jocelyn Gendron), with favourite Born A Rebel (Jessica Turenne) finishing third.
Uncontrollable earned his second win of the year from seven starts and now has a dozen wins lifetime with earnings just shy of the $150,000 mark. The son of Control The Moment is trained by Louis-Philippe Turcotte for owners Steve Perreault and Johanne Dechamplain, both of Mont-Joli, Que. Uncontrollable paid $12.40 to win as the 5-1 fourth choice on the toteboard.
The victory in the ninth race feature was Auger's third of the day after guiding her own trainees Windsun Diego and Sensi Amnesia to back-to-back victories in races three and four. With her driving double on opening day last week, Auger now has five wins at the 2024 meet and is tied atop the early standings with reigning driving champion Pascal Berube, who followed up an opening day win with four more today.
The toteboard at 3R was rocked in the eighth race trot as 43-1 longshot La Bromontoise was able to lead from start to finish for a 2-1/2-length triumph in 2:00.2, matching her lifetime mark. The five-year-old homebred Angus Hall mare is owned by her trainer and driver, Jerome Lombart of Bromont, Que. She earned her first win in three starts this year and returned $88 to her backers at the betting windows.
