Blood Money Bests Stablemate In Charlottetown Preferred
Blood Money completed a Marc Campbell driving triple as the stallion turned back stablemate and heavy favourite Twin B Tuffenuff in Saturday evening's Preferred 2 Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $3,600 feature had Spectrum Seelster (David Dowling) pounce to the lead in :28.3 followed by a half of :57.4. The Ron Matheson-trained duo of Blood Money (Campbell) and Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) followed patiently in third and fourth, respectively, in the early going before Campbell pulled the right line heading to the three-quarters of 1:26.4. The first-over Blood Money took control in the stretch at 4-1 odds and fought off the heavily favoured, second-over Twin B Tuffenuff to win in 1:55.1 for owner Dr. Mitchell Downey of Saint John, N.B. Spectrum Seelster held on for third.
The eight-year-old son of Sweet Lou is two-for-seven this year and sports 27 career wins on his resume as he inches closer to the half-million-dollar earnings mark.
Campbell also won earlier on the card with the Brent Campbell-trained Pendleton Rodeo (1:55.1) in Race 4 and with JK Express (1:56.2) for trainer Jared Perrot in Race 7.
Trainer Matheson had a pair of victories as Selkirk Echo (Barrieau) also won in Race 9 in 1:55.3.
The duo of driver Adam Merner and trainer Melissa Rennie doubled up winning Race 10 with Merigo Magic (1:57.2) and Race 11 with Mr Kelly (1:57.1).
Trainer Jennifer Doyle celebrated a pair of wins with the Dowling driven pair of Usurper (1:59.2) and First Glance (1:56).
Three-year-old colt Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) was impressive early on the program winning in 1:57.2 with a :27 flat final quarter. Owner MacKenzie Arsenault of Alberton, P.E.I. purchased the Pang Shui-Camco Terra colt for a thrifty $3,500 at the 2022 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale.
