The Canam Banker Best At Mohawk On Thursday
The Canam Banker posted a new lifetime mark in the swiftest mile of the evening in one of three $18,000 conditioned trot classes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, May 9.
Tyler Borth and the Victor Puddy student were caught on the outside in third through an opening panel in :28.3, set by a parked out Alexander (Todd Ratchford). Alexander was the first to find position along the pylons, but The Canam Banker followed quickly to take over before the :57.1 half. Borth and The Canam Banker reached the three-quarters in 1:25.2, opening up by 5-1/2 lengths. Jack N Abs (Sylvain Filion), the bettors' choice in the mile, gave heavy chase through the final turn and into the stretch, but The Canam Banker had enough of a lead to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:54.4. Jack N Abs finished second and Alexander took third.
The sophomore gelded son of The Bank and the Muscle Mass mare Fiery Ash is owned by Michael Marocco and Victor Puddy. He earned his first win of the year and second win in 13 career starts. The Canam Banker returned $9.60 to his backers at 4-1 odds.
