Fraser Downs Wraps Up Successful Winter/Spring Meet
Fraser Downs' Winter/Spring Meet concluded on May 3 with double digit increases in wagering.
Fraser Downs has reported an 18 per cent increase in the amount wagered per program at this year's Winter/Spring Meet compared to last year's meet. The Surrey, B.C. track has reported that despite hosting two fewer programs than last year, the total wagering for the meet reached $6.97 million, marking an increase of $613,000 and a 9.7 per cent boost in overall wagering for the first half of the 2024 harness racing season in the province.
Driver Kelly Hoerdt led the meet in wins with an impressive 30 per cent win percentage, while Scott Knight was a strong second at 24.1 per cent. Knight solidly led the pack in money earned with some impressive performances this year. His mounts earned more than $290,000 in purses.
Reflecting on the year so far, Dawn Lupul, Manager of Racing and Communications, shared, "We’ve had a lot of fun with the Fraser program this year. There has been great support from the race office and our horsepeople to deliver the competitive racing while we continue to focus on the horseplayer. The response has been fantastic and we are very encouraged and thankful for the progress."
Fraser offers some of the lowest takeouts in harness racing with the Win, Place, Show, Double, Hi-5, Pick 3 and Pick 4 all at 15 per cent. The programs offer an early and late Pick 4, two Classic Hi-5s with a 100 per cent carryover and now an early and late Double with a unique $2 minimum bet.
As the Winter/Spring Meet of 2024 on the five-eighths oval concludes on a high note, the track will now be preparing for the return of racing on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m PT and building on the momentum.
