Doyle Triples In Red Shores Season Opener
Commanding the lead, Chelski sprinted to the finish in one of the two features on opening day at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, May 4, contributing to a training triple for 2023's leading trainer, Jennifer Doyle.
In the $3,250 featured fillies and mares pace, driver Corey MacPherson had the call on the 2:00.1 winning Doyle trainee. Chelski struck the lead at the quarter in :30.2 then grabbed a 32-second breather in the second split of 1:02.2 before hitting three-quarters in 1:32.1. The final stanza was a snappy :28 flat panel as Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) charged up to finish second with pocket-sitter Elm Grove Mistress (Damian MacLellan) third.
Jeffrey and Robert Skinner of Nova Scotia share ownership of the seven-year-old daughter of Rollwithitharry-Safety Net.
Other Doyle winners included Spectrum Seelster (Dowling) in 1:56.2 in the $3,500 co-feature (below) and First Glance (MacPherson) with an identical 1:56.2 clocking.
Driver Marc Campbell had a hat trick on the evening, winning with Imalookertoo (1:56) for trainer Jeff Holmes, Pendleton Rodeo (1:58.4) from his own barn and St Charles Fireball (2:00.4) for trainer Vaughan Doyle.
Live harness racing continues on Thursday, May 9 at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
