Laila Blue Wins First Preferred Wednesday At London
Laila Blue sprung a 7-1 upset in the $11,600 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday, April 24 evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, making the victory her first lifetime score at the Preferred level.
Major League N (Ed Hensley) took the field to the quarter in :27.4 and half in :57.3. From the rail, Travis Henry and Laila Blue got away fifth through the first half of the race before pulling to the outside. The field divided in three parts through the three-quarters in 1:27.1 and Laila Blue maintained position second over in third. The field spread out across the stretch in a battle towards the wire. At the photo finish, Laila Blue prevailed by a length in 1:58. Sports Duchess (Samuel Fillion) and Exotic Dragon (Travis Cullen) finished in a dead heat for second.
Trainer Doug Good owns the seven-year-old daughter of Art Major out of the Bettors Delight mare Delightful Diva. Laila Blue won her third race from 15 starts this year and her 15th race from 136 career starts, lifting her career bankroll to $190,994. She paid $16.60 to win.
