O'Brien Award Winners Headline Mohawk Qualifiers
Past O'Brien Award winners headlined the Monday, April 22 morning qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Millar Farms' homebred pacing mares Prohibition Legal and Silver Label finished a neck apart in a 1:53.2 mile while making their five-year-old debuts. The pair left from the outside posts in the second qualifier of the morning with Prohibition Legal (Louis-Philippe Roy) leading all the way through fractions of :28.3, :57.4 and 1:26.1. Silver Label (James MacDonald) followed in the pocket throughout and sprinted up alongside her Nick Gallucci stablemate at the end in a :27 final frame. There were 4-1/4 lengths back to third-place finisher Boston Bound (Bob McClure).
Logan Park (Doug McNair) won his second straight qualifying start of the season in 1:54.1 for trainer Rob Fellows and owners Outofthepark Stable, Reg Higgs and Arpad Szabo. The six-year-old trotter inherited the lead after a :57.4 half when Esplosione (Jody Jamieson) made a break on top. After passing three-quarters in 1:27.1, he kicked home in 27 seconds to a seven-length victory. Kameran Hanover (Chris Christoforou) finished second over Gaines Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy), with Esplosione quickly regrouping on the outside after his miscue and trotting home in fourth.
